The finish and the system
What is acrylic parging?
Acrylic parging is the term homeowners often use for an acrylic stucco-type finish on the exposed foundation. Its colour and texture come from the selected manufactured finish coat.
The finish coat is one part of the installation. The prepared substrate, compatible base coat, reinforcing mesh, primer where specified, and edge details all need to work together. The products and layers depend on the selected system and the condition of the existing surface.

How we approach acrylic installation
We confirm the complete assembly before coating the foundation. A finish coat alone does not correct loose material, water problems or an unsuitable substrate.
01 · Assess and specify
Check the existing foundation
Review the concrete or masonry, existing coatings, cracks, moisture exposure and the point where the finish will stop. Confirm that the selected manufacturer’s details cover the proposed application.
02 · Prepare the surface
Build on a sound base
Protect adjoining surfaces, remove loose material and prepare the substrate for adhesion. Mechanical preparation and repairs are included where the surface and system require them.
03 · Base coat and reinforcement
Install the specified layers
Apply the compatible base coat and embed reinforcing mesh according to the system details. Treat corners, openings and transitions as part of the assembly.
04 · Prime and texture
Apply the selected finish
Allow the base to dry as specified, apply the required primer, then trowel and float the acrylic finish to its selected texture. Weather conditions and drying times follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Colour
Review the selected manufacturer’s colour chart against your siding, stucco, masonry and trim. Light neutrals, warm greys and darker grey tones create different levels of contrast.
Available colours, custom tinting and any colour restrictions depend on the chosen finish. Confirm the final selection from a physical sample, since screens and photographs can change how a colour appears.
Texture
Fine sand or pebble textures give a tighter appearance. Medium pebble and scroll textures create more visible surface pattern. The available textures and aggregate sizes depend on the product selected for your project.
We review the intended look alongside the existing wall finish. A close match should be assessed from a sample rather than promised from a photo alone.

Choosing the right application
Is acrylic suitable for your foundation?
Acrylic is an option when the complete system suits the substrate and exposure. We check the termination above soil or landscaping, drainage, adjoining finishes and the selected manufacturer’s requirements.
For conventional concrete or masonry foundations that continue to the soil line, J and J Coatings generally recommends cementitious parging. An acrylic decorative finish is not a substitute for foundation waterproofing or structural repairs.

Can acrylic be applied over existing parging?
That depends on the condition and compatibility of the existing coating. We assess adhesion, loose areas, repairs and the selected system’s substrate requirements before deciding what can remain.
Can I choose a colour to suit my home?
Yes. We review the available colour chart and texture options for the selected finish. Final approval should be based on a physical sample and the product’s colour requirements.
